Reviews

""A cute and colorful tale of trucks."" - Kirkus Review ""Riera's picture-book debut sees a fleet of heavy work vehicles demolish one building and construct another. In a city populated by windscreen-eyed vehicles (very much in the mold of Pixar's Cars), several brightly colored trucks are about to start work: steamroller Smooth Operator, excavator Scoopy Doo, and many others, with some drinking gasoline and one pooping by-products into a portable toilet. ""It's morning, and the trucks arrive. / With engines on, they're set to drive. / Then, one by one, they take their cue. / So...what do trucks all love to do?"" They start by knocking a building down, breaking up the debris, and hauling it away. Then, after making use of truck-size measurement equipment, they construct a skyscraper from the ground up. Riera narrates in rhyming couplets, supplying a work-song rhythm that emphasizes the sense of fun and cooperation. The busy bustle of the construction site emerges through inventive variations in type size, color, and orientation, especially when foregrounding the wrecking ball's ""BOOM, BOOM, BOOM,"" the concrete-breaking ""rap, tap, tap,"" and other sounds. Weizman's two-page-spread illustrations capture the characters' industrious pep and offer a trove of background detail, including gear-wheel-shaped cereal, a pet shop selling planes in bird cages and submarines in fish tanks, and even a masked automobile robbing a bank. A cute and colorful tale of trucks."" 5 Star Readers' Favorite Review ""As an educator, I value books that combine fun with learning, and this one hits the mark. The rhyming structure supports early reading skills, while the truck-themed vocabulary introduces real-world concepts in a way that is exciting instead of hard to understand... it's the kind of book that's bound to become a storytime favorite-whether you're reading it at home or in a busy classroom full of curious little minds."" Jennifer Senick, for Readers' Favorite Educator Review""I bought this book for my two boys (ages 7 and 4) who love vehicles and it has been a hit in my house! My younger son particularly loves it and requests it nightly! He won't let me skip any of the little word bubbles from the trucks. My older son notices new things about the illustrations every time we read it! As a speech therapist, I love the rhyming and vocabulary in the book... This will surely be a book I give many times to friends!"" Sara S. Speech Therapist Author Review""My kids LOVE any type of work truck. This book was one of their favorites of all the ones that we have read. I can easily see this becoming a classic. The rhyming and meter were spot on, illustrations were great, too!"" Ron Keres, Author of the Finn the Frog series

Ron Keres, Author of the Finn the Frog series ""'What Trucks Love to Do' is a fun, action-packed read that captures the imagination of kids who are fascinated by big machines. The rhyming text is engaging and easy to follow, making it perfect for bedtime or storytime. The illustrations are colorful and full of personality-each truck looks like it's having the time of its life smashing, lifting, building, and cleaning up. It also sneakily teaches teamwork and the importance of both making a mess and cleaning it up."" L.T. ""Purchased this book for our young truck lovers! We love little blue truck and goodnight goodnight construction site but we know all the words and wanted to add one to the collection. This is a great addition - bouncy rhyming and fun illustrations. Perfect for story time or as a gift for the construction obsessed kid."" - A.C.
