Walking on Muddy Clay starts as a story of Gonzalo Canales' early years in El Salvador in the 1970s and early 80s during a civil war. Gonzalo takes the reader on a unique and inspiring journey of faith and redemption, formed from unstable beginnings. Through the challenges of childhood trauma, Gonzalo finds refuge in the majestic natural beauty of Central America. Faith keeps planting seeds deep in his soul through a teachable life lesson, through abandonment and early signs of post traumatic stress disorders. Gonzalo's family eventualy migrate to Canada to find the refuge and safety that had eluded them in a war torn environment where death and heartbreak consumed all. Gonzalo takes us through a journey of self-discovery with the will of a warrior. The author narrates his passionate will for survival through an empathetic and divine intervention at every turn; his mental suffering begins to heal with an unshakeable faith, built on mercy and grace. Author Information

Gonzalo E Canales attended the prestigious Alberta College of Art and Design (now Alberta University of the Arts). He has been involved in the development of using art creatively through the fundamentals of art therapy. He founded one of the first large art therapy studios in Alberta, Canada, for which he was the art director, a counsellor, and a program developer. In 2013, Chrysalis Therapeutic Art Outreach Program won the Edmonton Mayor's Award. Infusing the resilience of his family in his writing, Canales hopes that his story will give hope to those that are searching for answers in their quest for healing. He lives in Alberta, Canada with his yellow labrador Jasper. He spends his days working on his next book. Surrounded by his children and family.
