OverviewEver since watching David Leans masterpiece ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ as a young boy, Robert Ayre has been fascinated by the life and times of T. E. Lawrence. Another admirer of Lawrence, Winston Churchill, once described the early months of the Second World War as ""a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma"" but this quote could much more appropriately apply to Lawrence himself. For the first time, this book, using Lawrence's own words, visits every location of the Lawrence story in what is now Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Syria, with photographs of the sites today alongside photographs taken by Lawrence himself. From arriving in Jeddah in October 1916 to his triumphant entry into Damascus in October 1918, over thirty locations of interest are listed, in sequential order, detailing how to get there and where to stay. Whether visiting one or two locations or them all, this guide will be of invaluable in explaining the history of events at each site. It has currently never been easier to visit these sites in Jordan and Saudi Arabia, but they will not be found in their original remote state for very much longer.
