Filipov is based at the Department of Nephrology and Transplantation, University Hospital Alexandrovska, Sofia, Bulgaria. He obtained his specialist qualifications in Internal Medicine (2010) and Nephrology (2015). From December 2003 to November 2020, and again from October 2021 to the present, he has worked at the Department of Nephrology and Transplantation at University Hospital Alexandrovska. Dr Filipov served as Head of the Dialysis Unit (December 2021 – January 2023) and was an Assistant Professor at the Medical University – Sofia (2005 – 2020). Between December 2020 and October 2021, he was part of the renal and transplantation team at University Hospital Lozenetz, Sofia. In 2015, he earned his PhD on Vitamin D and kidney transplantation. Additionally, Dr Filipov worked as a Specialist Registrar at the John Walls Renal Unit, Leicester, UK (November 2011 – April 2012). Since 2013, Dr Filipov has been actively involved in the plasma exchange program at the Department of Nephrology and Transplantation and contributed to the development of the Bulgarian Guideline for Plasma Exchange in 2016.
