Tom Hyland is a freelance wine writer and photographer based in Chicago. He specializes in Italian wines, having made more than 85 trips to that country. He has written two previous books about Italian wine, and currently contributes articles to Decanter, Wine-Searcher, and Food & Wine. He is also a photographer and was named Wine Photographer of the Year (category Places) in 2020 at the World Food Photography Awards.
