The Pan-African 'Charter for African Cultural Renaissance': The Return of Museum Objects from Colonial Contexts

Overview

This book focuses on the postcolonial preservation of cultural heritage and the restitution of colonial artefacts to African countries of origin within the framework of the Pan-African Charter for African Cultural Renaissance. It analyses the history of the charter, which came into force in 2020, and its multifaceted content. In doing so, it acknowledges the role of the African Union and its member states, as well as UNESCO, in its implementation, particularly within the 'Global Priority Africa' framework.
