He has held visiting appointments at the University of Michigan and Exeter University. A leading scholar of seventeenth-century literature, Cain has published extensively on Shakespeare, Donne, Jonson, and Herrick, and edited major texts including Ben Jonson’s Complete Poems, The Complete Poetry of Robert Herrick, and Nicholas Hilliard’s Arte of Limning.
