The Land of Shiva: Ujjain, Kashi and Kedarnath

Overview

The Land of Shiva is a visual narrative tribute to three of India’s most sacred Shaivite sites—Kashi, Ujjain, and Kedarnath—where mythology, devotion, and history converge. This coffee-table book explores these timeless cities not only as ancient spiritual centres but also as living symbols of India’s cultural resurgence. For centuries, these places have drawn saints, seekers, scholars, and emperors—each adding to their spiritual resonance. Kashi, believed to be the oldest living city in the world, is where time dissolves into eternity at the ghats of the Ganga. Ujjain, the city of Mahakal, pulses with cosmic energy, where Shiva is worshipped as the lord of time. Kedarnath, nestled in the Himalayas, stands as a symbol of endurance, devotion, and divine presence amidst nature’s raw grandeur.

Reviews

The unprecedented material progress that the world has seen is lacking in soul. Materialism alone will not save the world. It needs a dash of spiritualism, morality and ethics to avoid a bleak future. Ancient India made tremendous contributions to the world through its culture and ideas which spread to the far-off corners of the world. India is once again poised to take its place among the leading nations of the world. What is unique is that its rise is accompanied by an unmistakable cultural and spiritual renaissance. This well-crafted book, coming at a time when the world is experiencing multiple crises, tells you how India’s rich cultural legacy is being revived. —Arvind Gupta, Author and Director, Vivekananda International Foundation
