Overview

Author Information

Nie Xin is a scholar of Chinese law and legal history at Tsinghua University. He is a member of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). His research fields include legal history, comparative law, constitutional law and legal education. His scholarly work includes over 40 papers published in both Chinese and English academic journals. His books include Experiments and Improvements in Representation (The Commercial Press, 2021), The History of Chinese Public Law (The Commercial Press, 2020), The Judiciary in Modern China (The Commercial Press, 2019), Studies on the Constitution of the Republic of China (City University of Hong Kong Press, 2017), Between China and the West: Legal modernization in historical and comparative perspective (Law Press China, 2015), and Lectures on the History of Chinese Legal System (Peking University Press, 2014). He is the translator of the book Goodbye, Montesquieu: The New Separation of Powers (China University of Political Science & Law Press, 2016).   Professor Nie was recognized as one of the Top Ten Outstanding Young Jurists in 2020. He is also a leading talent in philosophy and social sciences under the “National Talents Program”. He is the Executive Director of the Chinese Legal History Research Association and the Secretary-General of the Basic Law Research Association. He was ever been the Deputy Director of the Trial Management Office at the Supreme People's Court.   Professor Nie is a graduate of Nanjing University (B.A.), Peking University (LL.B.), and Renmin University of China (Ph.D.). He has also been a visiting scholar at Harvard Law School. He teaches “Comparative Law”, “Chinese Legal History” and “The History of Chinese Public Law” to graduates and undergraduates respectively at Tsinghua.
