OverviewThe summer of 1942, World War II rages in Europe and the Pacific. 15-year-old James and his sister Natalia accidently overhear voices speaking in German through an open window at a nearby farm. Could their neighbor, Otto Herman, be a Nazi? When things start to go bad, their suspicions lead the pair to become teen spies, kicking off a cycle of suspense, kidnapping, violence, and death. Soon they discover a Nazi ring endeavoring to expose the Manhattan Project and the plan for America's atomic bombs. Time runs out for James and Natalia. Audrey Deichmann is an up-and-coming young novelist, collaborating on her debut YA novel, Teen Spies: Wartime Charlottesville Sleuths. Audrey excels in her education and recreational pastimes, particularly in school sports, karate, swimming, and in the National American Miss Pageant. Audrey lives with her family in Virginia and continues to write collectively with her grandfather, historian Jim Sargent. Jim Sargent is a retired professor of American History. His accomplishments include an undergraduate degree from Eastern Michigan University, followed by his master's and PhD in US History at Michigan State in 1970. Jim taught history for forty years, mostly at Virginia Western Community College. After years of writing historical articles for journals, as well as interview articles about sports history, Jim turned to writing fiction. He first penned a baseball novel but soon switched to mysteries. Creating a series of books in The Mickey Mathews Mysteries, Jim added his historical expertise about 20th Century America to his fictional plots and characters to collaborate with his granddaughter, Audrey Deichmann, for Teen Spies. His academic accomplishments include the Bachelor's Degree (1964) from Eastern Michigan University as well as the Master's (1968) and PhD Degrees (1972) in US History from Michigan State University.
