Soulful Living

Overview

Artificial Intelligence is reshaping our world with astonishing speed, offering tools that promise to solve complex problems and enhance our daily lives. But its greatest contribution might be the question it forces us to ask: What does it mean to be truly human? Soulful Living argues that the rise of AI is not a threat to our identity, but a profound invitation to reclaim it. This book guides readers beyond the myths of algorithmic perfection to rediscover the irreplaceable resources of the soul--presence, compassion, and spiritual discernment. It offers a hopeful vision where technology is neither a master nor a monster, but a mirror reflecting our potential for growth. This is not a warning about the dangers of technology, nor is it a manual for using AI to boost productivity. Instead, it shows how engaging AI with wisdom helps us cultivate a life of deeper purpose and resilience. This is a handbook for partnering with our new tools while tending the timeless garden of the soul. The age of AI is here, offering us the unique chance to become not just more efficient, but more fully, beautifully human.

Reviews

""In an age increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence, Thomas Shin offers a timely and deeply needed invitation to reclaim the soul. With theological depth and pastoral sensitivity, Soulful Living calls readers to rediscover deeper presence, discernment, and a more authentic, relational humanity. More than a critique of technology, this book offers a wise and compelling vision for faithful and fully human living today."" --Boram Lee, Professor of Pastoral Care, Wycliffe College, University of Toronto ""We face a profound erosion of silence and agency in our digital world. Dr. Shin provides a much-needed road map for the faithful. He deconstructs the false promises of virtual connection and endless optimization. He challenges us to return to the heart of social holiness. We must prioritize embodied presence and Christ-like compassion."" --Duk Yi Kwon, Bishop, The Korean Methodist Church of The Americas ""This volume addresses the complex challenges of fragmentation and disillusionment that often accompany AI. Thomas Shin offers a constructive viewpoint that reclaims the soul's wisdom and recovers our corresponding core human capacities. Shin skillfully modifies our understanding of myths that may be implied about artificial intelligence and offers us a fresh perspective that will restore compassion, heighten spiritual vitality, and promote human flourishing."" --Phil C. Zylla, Professor of Pastoral Theology, McMaster Divinity College
