OverviewSomatoa Zoology is a textbook of Animal diversity that explains both invertebrates and chordates. The invertebrate animals do not have vertebral column; chordates have notochord which in vertebrate Chordates ossifies to form backbone. The book also explains the classification of these animals in detail. Organisms were first classified by Aristotle into plants and animals. Carollus Linneaus introduced hierarchy of classification and supported two kingdom system of classification. He also introduced Binomial nomenclature, a system of naming in which two names are assigned to one organism. In the new system of classification, organisms are grouped into five kingdoms namely Monera, Protista, Fungi, Plantae and Animalia. Animals that donot have backbone are called in vertebrate animals.
