Author Information

Cari Sample Malver, an award-winning weaver, began her artistic journey twenty-five years ago at Tierra Wools in northern New Mexico. She trained in the Rio Grande tradition unique to the Southwest where she makes her home. She has shown in galleries and art shows throughout the west and was honored with the Judges Choice Award for her piece ""Old Soul"" at the Intermountain Weavers Conference in Durango, Colorado. Cari was featured in the film ""Woven Stories; Weaving Traditions of Northern New Mexico."" Her woven art has sold to private collectors and fiber art enthusiasts, and she has done many commissioned handwoven originals over the years. Cari's artistic visions and original designs are inspired by the beauty and diverse cultures of the Southwest. The images in this book reflect Cari's evolution as a weaver from her first piece, ""Learning to Fly,"" to her more recent creations. The first time she threw the shuttle and danced upon the treadles of the walking loom, it felt like an ancestral memory intertwining ancient wisdom, sacred tradition, and intuitive design. Each thread of grace is fearlessly woven together with the complexities of human experience. The result is a tapestry of raw, organic beauty honoring the intricate dance of life. In addition to teaching weaving to more than 150 weavers in Santa Fe, Cari is the Founder and Director of Loom Dancer Odysseys, a textile tour company, exposing others to global fiber art since 2009. She is passionate about offering support in sustaining worldwide textile communities. Through her company's unique hands-on journey, Cari enjoys the rare opportunity to advocate for textile artists and indigenous communities around the globe.
