Principles of Gene Manipulation and Genomics

Overview

In the decade following the publication of the human genome sequence, we have witnessed a revolution in recombinant DNA technology and its applications. The use of gene manipulation techniques on an ever-increasing scale has underpinned numerous advances in biotechnology and medicine, and has vastly increased our understanding of the world around us. Now in its eighth edition, Principles of Gene Manipulation and Genomics embraces this revolution, providing integrated coverage of the techniques used for gene manipulation, genomics, and its related disciplines. As in previous editions, the text covers the basic gene manipulation techniques and then describes recent developments in recombinant DNA technology, genome analysis, functional genomics, and proteomics, bringing these themes together in a final section that discusses how the techniques are applied in the real world. The eighth edition includes a number of new features such as full-color illustrations throughout, color-coded text boxes in each chapter offering insights into the history, methodology, ethical concerns, and applications of genomic technologies, chapter summaries and thought-provoking end-of-chapter questions. The book is accompanied by a dedicated website providing further instruction and resources for both the student and instructor as well as regular updates on important topics. All art from the book is available to instructors for download from the website. Principles of Gene Manipulation and Genomics is an accessible and up-to-date guide to this exciting field, and is the essential reference for upper-level undergraduate and graduate students of genetics, genomics, molecular biology, and recombinant DNA technology.

Reviews

As with previous texts written by Primrose, the subjects are discussed in enough detail to stimulate first to final-year biology and genetics undergraduates and will also help to remind research students about some of the basics they have forgotten. Times Higher Education Supplement
