"English summary: This Festschrift in honour of Joachim Jens Hesse, one of the most important and influential political and administrative scientists of his generation, is a compilation of studies on the prevailing and still precarious relationship between the ""Nation State and the European Union"" by an illustrious group of scholars of law, economics and social sciences. They discuss this subject systematically in twenty analytical studies and outline ways out of the multiple domestic and European crises occurring at the moment. The book is divided into four chapters (historical approaches; crises and their consequences; institutions, state officials and policies; and courses of action). Most of the publications in the book were first presented at a colloquium entitled ""Nation State and the European Union"" held in honour of Joachim Jens Hesse at Schloss Leopoldskron in Salzburg.
