Overview

New and modern nanoscience developments bring new nanomaterials with unique electronic and optical properties that are of outmost importance in modern applications. This book presents the spray pyrolysis technique that is used to produce thin films of metallic oxides on glass substrates. Also discussed are the process variables of the spray pyrolysis process used to manufacture specific structures such as nanostructured thin films. Building on the foundation set by the pyrolysis technology, several metallic oxides have been synthesized and characterized. The focus of research is on the linkage between the synthesis of binary oxides such as ZnO, In2O3, TiO2, and MoO3, physical characterization and the effects of doping on their properties. This book provides interesting insights into the literature on applied research, and each chapter contains details that aim to develop awareness of the topic and the physicochemical methods used, including the nanostructure, optical and electrical features. The four chapters present and discuss several comprehensive studies of metallic oxides for various applications, such as water purification, optoelectronic devices, photocatalysts, etc and give the research community and students the thorough grounding they need in spray pyrolysis applications in the nanotechnology of metal oxides.

Author Information

Ruxandra Vidu is currently an Assoc. Adj. Prof. of the University of California Davis, USA. She graduated from the University Politehnica Bucharest, Romania, and completed her PhD in 2000 at the School of Engineering, Osaka University, Japan. Dr. Vidu's research focuses on advanced materials and processes, characterization and nano-device integration. Her research interests include materials for energy and sustainable developments (iron oxide nanoparticles, superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs), thermoelectrics, solar cells, water treatments); fabrication of thin films and nanowire arrays using electrochemistry and template synthesis; characterization of nanostructures and advanced materials; relationship between nanostructured materials and properties (physical, electrical, chemical, optical, magnetic and electrochemical properties). She is an invited speaker at scientific conferences, authored more than 100 papers in scientific international journals, book chapters and patents, and contributed to hundreds of communications at international conferences. Since 1996, Dr. Vidu has worked with leading universities in Japan, United States, Tunisia and Romania. She is a co-inventor of Bloo Solar's Solar Brush(TM) core technologies that developed the unique 3rd generation three dimensional architecture, thin films, and solar module. She is an elected member of the American Romanian Academy of Arts and Sciences (ARA) since 2003, and the President of ARA since 2013. Address: University of California Davis, Faculty of Engineering, Davis, California Email: rvidu@ucdavis.edu, info@AmericanRomanianAcademy.org Najoua Kamoun-Turki is a full Professor at the Faculty of Sciences of Tunis (FST) University of Tunis El Manar Tunisia since 2007. She obtained her PhD thesis in 1992 and the Habilitation (HDR) in Physics in Tunisia (FST) in 2000. Her academic research focuses on transparent conductive oxides (TCO: ZnO, SnO2, In2O3, TiO2, MoO3, Fe2O3 and Fe3O4), binary semi-conductors (In2S3, SnS, CdS, Cu2S, ZnS, PbS and MgS), ternary (P3HT and P3OT, CuInS2, In2-xGaxS2, ) and quaternary (CuIn1-xGaxS2: CIGS, Cu2ZnSnS4: CZTS) compounds for optoelectronic applications such as photocatalysis, gas sensors, solar cells, UV and IR detectors. Nanomaterials and thin films are grown by various low cost techniques (e.g. spray pyrolysis, chemical bath deposition (CBD), spin coating, electro-deposition and sputtering). She published about 100 papers in International Journals with impact factor and supervised more than 20 PhD students. Since 1989 she was a researcher in Physics Condensed Matter Laboratory (LPMC) where she was a head (2011-2015). During 2013-2014 she was the General Director of Physico-Chemical Analysis Institute (INRAP) in the Technopole of Sidi Thabet. She was a Vice President of AUF COMARES (for MAGHREB: 2013-2015) and she is, since 2013, a representative of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research on the Board of Directors of the National Metrology Agency (ANM). Since 2001 she is the Director of Synthesis of Nanomaterials and Thin Film Semiconductors for Optoelectronic Applications, Physics Condensed Matter Laboratory. She is an elected ARA and TWAS member since 2015 and 2016, respectively.
