Equality means that everyone gets a shoe. Equity means that everyone gets a shoe that fits. (Author Unknown) Through a colourful symbolism of a shoe, this story offers an opportunity for readers of all ages to appreciate that people are made up of many identities. Reviews

The book, My Shoe, helps you to uncover your true self and feel that you belong. As you develop an awareness of others, you realize that together we're better as one human race. Louise Landles ( Teacher at YRDSB) My Shoe presents a metaphor that allows young children to more easily grasp identity, intersectionality, and growth. The content is age-appropriate and easily digestible while also creating space for further and more complex conversations. Roz Espin (Director of Equity Education - Harmony Movement) Many people go through life not knowing who they truly are. This book is a fabuous read for the young, influential mind. Catherine Ogilvie

Author Information

My name is Denise Mabee. Just to clarify, my last name is not yes and not no, it really is Mabee! To start I'll tell you a bit about myself. I started teaching before Facebook was invented and I love my job. I feel honoured to be a part of shaping young children's minds so they can live their lives powerfully. I have a particular interest in promoting equity and inclusivity and have spearheaded a campaign called 'I Own It' which inspires people to become fully self-expressed in an area that's important to them. To support this campaign, I have written and published a book called 'My Shoe' and present workshops around this topic to adults and children.
