Ireentje loves her handmade doll but has been captivated by Chatty Cathy and hatches a plan to earn money that involves driveway gravel and nail polish. Ireentje's antics kept me reading and rooting for her page after page. This precocious, independent, and sometimes under-confident child is full of delightful surprises! The book is a truly captivating read! My 6 year old seemed to really enjoy them. Sat through with out fidgeting or moving away, so interested and engaged. Different time and environment, but relatable. Delightful bookThese are wholesome stories that I'm looking forward to reading to my children who are too young to read on their own. The larger font and short vignettes are helpful for younger readers. This is really short, entertaining read for an adult. Ireentje is relatable. I think children will love this! This is the first in a series of books for early readers, and I think they will be very popular. They follow the events in a young child's life. She learns to deal with her brother, her mother, her schoolteacher, her friends and the driver who brings them home from school. As an immigrant in Canada, she meets men hunting wolves, firemen, and the languages spoken by her neighbors. Each brief story has a special charm. Children will get the issues. Great Book to Read to Your Child/GrandchildSuch a delightful set of vignettes about the childhood experiences of a young girl, her friends and her family. Just the kind of book I would have loved reading to my own daughter - or my son - when they were children.
