Music We Heard Along the Way: A Collection of Stories of Music and Connection - Volume 2

Overview

What song takes you back-instantly-to another time, another place, another version of yourself? In Part I of this collection of stories, you'll heard dozens of individuals share their unique connection to music. What music memories have left a lasting memory for you? A famous concert, a special song, or maybe meeting your favorite songwriter or musician? This book, Music We Heard Along the Way, Volume II,  the companion book to Volume I, brings to readers more wonderful, unique, funny, and sometimes bittersweet narratives of how music has left an imprint in their memories and affected their lives. Who doesn't have that special memory that a concert or album will remind you of throughout your life? These stories have been collected from people of all ages, all backgrounds, and musical preferences. Maybe you saw the Beatles, maybe Kendrick Lamar. Perhaps you like classical, or jazz, or straight forward rock and roll. It doesn't matter, because these stories are unique in their own way-but also universal. Whether it is finding yourself on stage at a George Clinton concert or invoking the Grateful Dead to move a business meeting along, they capture the reasons that music affects us so deeply and helps to form our own communities through shared experiences and emotions. You may have had similar experiences...or wish you had. Music isn't just something we hear-it's something we carry with us, every step along the way.

Author Information

Eric Gray is from Plainview, Long Island in New York. After graduating college, he took a cross-country trip that brought him to San Francisco. His plan was to get a job for a year and write a book about the history of protest music. As plans go, life twisted it in the best way. His job turned into a career with the U.S. Department of Labor where he met his future wife, Lynn, on his first day of work. Eric and Lynn have a daughter, Rachel, and son, David- who, with his wife, Lisa, have given them two beautiful granddaughters, Juliet and Vivian. Eric loves hiking, politics, baseball and, no surprise here, rock and roll. Oh, that book on the history of protest music never got written. You know what John Lennon said: ""Life is what happens while you're busy making other plans.""
