Overview

Following the year Rachael Mogan McIntosh gave birth to her third child and shapeshifted from wild to mild, Mothering Heights is a hilarious, moving celebration of early parenthood - written by a survivor. As Rachael navigates her way through the confusing rules of modern-day motherhood and grapples with the crazy-making Sisyphean beast that is housework, her three children under five grow like weeds, eat like footballers and deliver non-stop comedic shenanigans. Rachael adapts to the realisation that her old identity no longer quite fits, and neither do her trousers. The year is beyond tough but the hard-won wisdom of motherhood cracks her heart wide open. A comedy, tragedy and farcical romp all rolled into one, Mothering Heights is a love story about becoming a mother.

Reviews

"'Wild and witty and wet-your-pants funny! The words pop and crackle on the page. This is what parenting small children is like: a never-ending shitstorm. Buy this book for therapy. Grab a copy for all of your girlfriends. Suddenly, you'll realise you are not alone.' Tracey Spicer, journalist 'A big, beautiful celebration of the chaos and camaraderie of motherhood. Mogan McIntosh writes with wit, honesty and enough self-deprecation to have you laughing out loud.' Jodi Wilson, author of The Complete Australian Guide to Pregnancy and Birth and Practising Simplicity 'Prepare your pelvic floor and tuck a hanky in your bra. Rachael Mogan McIntosh perfectly captures the giddy heights and messy lows of motherhood with her trademark heart and hilarity. A funny, wise, relatable love letter (and ransom note!) to mothers everywhere - I didn't want it to end.' Michelle Barraclough of the Writers Book Club podcast 'A book to hand to strangers when they tell you to ""enjoy every minute"" of motherhood. This rollicking account of the all-too-real story of the long days and nights of early parenthood reminds us that sometimes the best we can do is to laugh through the gastro.' Tabitha Carvan, author of This Is Not a Book About Benedict Cumberbatch 'Witty, honest and deliciously dry, Mothering Heights is a frank and tender ode to motherhood in all its mess and magic. With a voice that's both razor-sharp and full of empathy, Mogan McIntosh will make you laugh, cry and feel just that little bit less alone.'Ariane Beeston, author ofBecause I'm Not Myself, You See"
