Molecular Biology and Biochemistry

Overview

In the current era, students of biology are faced with a vastly different landscape. The field has become more molecular-focused, with molecular biology tools playing a crucial role in advancing our understanding and solving longstanding problems related to the genomes of plants and animals. These tools have proven to be highly effective when combined with traditional research methods to study the structure and function of millions of genes. The book chapters included in this volume provide readers with up-to-date information on methods and protocols in a simplified format that is easy to understand and implement. These methods and protocols serve as a gold-standard reference for scientists aiming to develop and enhance their molecular biology skills towards the discovery of new biological relationships. The book has been organized into 10 chapters, each containing an introduction, principle, protocol, applications, and troubleshooting tips. It is designed to meet the needs of graduate and postgraduate students, as well as research scholars.

Author Information

Dr. H.P. Puttaraju, M.Sc., Ph.D., FRES is a Professor of Sericulture/ Life Sciences and Co-ordinator, Biological Sciences (Integrated M.Sc.) of Bangalore University, Bangalore, Karnataka. With acquiring advanced training at Cardiff University of Wales, UK, he has investigated and studied the importance of Wolbachia endosymbiont in insect and insect pests using molecular techniques. Using DNA markers he and his group have analyzed several plant and insect genotypes. So far he has successfully guided 11 Ph.D and 7 M. Phil students on various aspects of Life Sciences. He has authored/edited 2 books in his field of interest and published over 70 research papers in reputed national and international journals. He is recipient of Sir C.V. Raman Young Scientist Karnataka State Award, Young Histochemist Award, and is a Fellow of Royal Entomological Society, Fellow of Commonwealth Academic Staff Scholarship Commission, UK visiting fellow under INSA-Royal Society bilateral exchange programme. Dr. B.M. Prakash, M.Sc., Ph.D. has completed his doctoral studies with Seri-Biotechnology as the field specialization at Bangalore University and joined JNCASR for post doctoral research. His research in Ph.D programme includes understanding the infection frequency of Wolbachia (vertically transmitted bacterial endosymbiont) in insect pests associated with sericulture and its possible role in controlling uzifly, Exorista sorbillans, a serious tachinid endoparasitoid of silkworm, Bombyx mori L. Mr. B.C. Keshava Murthy, M.Sc., Ph.D. has completed in Ph.D. degree very recently with specialization in Plant Biotechnology. He joined MAS Lab. Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore for Post Doctoral Research. His area of interest lies in application of DNA markers in Plants with particular references to Molecular Breeding and Genome Mapping.
