According to tradition, Juan Diego was the first to experience the apparition of the Virgin Mary on December 9, 1531. During this apparition, the Virgin Mary ordered Juan Diego to send a message to the Archbishop on her behalf. Juan Diego did as he was told but failed. What happens in the course of the following days cannot be more than a miracle.
