Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationHoward Swatland graduated with a BSc in Zoology in 1967 from the University of London, UK, followed by a PhD from the University of Wisconsin, USA. After three years of postdoctoral research in muscle pathology, he taught at the University of Guelph, Canada for 33 years. He developed many optoelectronic systems for predicting meat quality. After retirement in 2006, he continued developing new methods for the study of ecology and hydrology. Having taught in many countries, he has an international reputation as a teacher at vocational, undergraduate and post graduate levels. For his contributions to vocational education, he became a Fellow of the Institute of Meat Guild of the Worshipful Company of Butchers (City of London, UK).
