Manna from Heaven

Overview

The War has ended in Europe but Asia still rages on. The O'Flanagan family continues to be busy and waits for all to return safely home. Sally is offered Hollywood and Shamus the G"" intelligence desk in Washington - an American life begins. Shamus is taken to Los Alamos (Manhattan Project) to assist in something top secret and devastating to end the war against Japan. Rory is summoned to Dublin to see the the Taoiseach and is surprised at being awarded a citizens medal for his work during the Emergency. He is also told that his son Shamus will receive the highest medal honour in Ireland for his work in the Emergency and promoted to Colonel. Rory is contacted by the government - the 30 goats and a ram are to be given to his business, free to keep, in recognition of their contribution to the War effort in Europe. However this means no more government contract - so Dean and Rory must find their own market for the milk and cheese within Ireland. Rory takes a fallow field and decides to grass it as he did all those years ago. This time for the goats to expand. At the same time four new donkeys are purchased for the new tourist business that is sure to come after the War. Time for renewal and optimism! While listening to the radio they hear the news that two atomic bombs have been dropped on Japan and the war in the Pacific is over. However in the village hearing of the Japanese deaths in two cites has opinions divided.
