Mack & Fred, Side by Side

Overview

A laugh-out-loud tale of friendship, feelings, and figuring out what truly matters. Mack and Fred do everything together-always have. So when it comes time to build their dream homes, they pick the perfect hilltop and settle in side by side. Life is just right... until Mack notices Fred's new porch. Then a slide. Then a pool. Then-wait-is that a bowling alley?! What starts as a shared dream quickly turns into a side-by-side showdown! Fueled by jealousy and outlandish upgrades, Mack and Fred race to outdo one another until they forget what made their friendship special in the first place. Perfect for fans of The Bad Seed and Those Darn Squirrels, this humorous and heartwarming picture book for ages 48 explores themes of friendship, jealousy, comparison culture, emotional growth, and contentment-with a healthy dose of silliness and heart.

Author Information

Erin Larivee is a clinical social worker, living in Wayland, MA, with her husband, two daughters and rescue pup. She has worked as a child therapist and truly believes in the importance of books in helping children make sense of their feelings and life experiences. She strives to write stories that convey important messages to kids while also making them laugh. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, having fun with her family, and coaching soccer. Kaitlin Oesterreicher is an illustrator based out of Dallas, Texas. After finishing her studies in Visualization at Texas A&M University, she was drawn to the world of children's books and storytelling. Her characters are influenced by child-like wonder (and often a pastry or two.) Kaitlin's work uplifts readers and encourages them to embrace their imagination and curiosity. She enjoys illustrating creatures both fantastical and real, and is particularly fond of doodling anything food-related.
