The crater where Loa lives with her father is home to thousands of colonists, who labor under the crushing rule of the Gevroh Corporation Enforcers, toiling to keep the machines of industry running. By Corporation decree even children must work for barter tokens, though Loa's meager allotment comes up short when the company store raises prices. With her sister locked in underground detention, and corporate abuses increasing, Loa is determined that on this year's Petition Day things will be different.
