Overview

"Fergen is a happy little fish who loves to swim and play in the sea with his sisters. But when his parents break the unexpected news that they're getting divorced and that he and his sisters will have to move to a new home, his carefree life as a free-floating fish goes belly-up!Fergen doesn't know how to process his feelings about such a big change, but his father, having been through something similar himself as a young fish, knows what might help. He takes Fergen to visit a wise old fish named Sam, who has experience with ""fish feelings"" and the wisdom to help Fergen understand his new, scary emotions. Written by a therapist and with vivid illustrations of charming characters, Little Fergen's Fish Feelings offers a positive approach to helping a child learn to cope with the volatility and emotional reality of divorce."

Author Information

"Charles M. Iker, LCSW, BCD, ACSW has thirty-five years of extensive education and experience in psychotherapy. As a father and a therapist who went through divorce, and who watched the emotional impact it had on his child and stepson, he conceived and wrote ""Little Fergen's Fish Feelings"" in hopes of helping other children through the trauma of separation and divorce. He underwent graduate training at Syracuse University - Falk School of Social Work, in the program focused on child and family studies. During his many years of professional practice, he became interested in clinical hypnosis and underwent training with the American Society for Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH). This led to advanced master class training in New York City with the renowned Jeffrey K. Zeig, PhD. He also studies Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) while pursuing advanced training working with dissociation as a function of trauma. The training in hypnosis and EMDR led to his intensive training with The Trauma Center, a program established and run by Bessel Van Der Kolk, M.D . Find out more about him at www.cmipsychotherapy.com. After wandering aimlessly through three years of college, illustrator, Ron Brancato, one evening at a bar & grill, was handed a small newspaper clipping by a coworker. This changed his life. The clipping carried a message for the opening of a new graphic design school in Rochester, NY called Graphic Careers. The year was 1979 and with his scant high school portfolio coupled with a lot of enthusiasm, he was accepted. After interviewing with one of the school's founders, Ron knew right away that illustration was his career path. He freelanced for the next thirty years, building fortune 100 clientele, until he joined his son and the Creative Corner team to carry on his passion for planning and designing well thought out communications. With his competencies of design, illustration, and strong typography skills, he brought to the team many years of expertise in developing and launching corporate communication campaigns."
