OverviewIt's 1986 and Laura Lacy is settling into the unsettling world of espionage. The Cold War seems to be coming to an end, until a new terrorist group called The Red Hand threatens to destroy nuclear power plants in the UK, the US and the USSR. The plan, if executed, will kill millions of people and render entire regions of the world uninhabitable, causing catastrophic environmental damage and worldwide political instability. The group's leader is Uri Bilenko, a rogue Soviet General, who will seemingly do anything to take control of power in the Soviet Union. It's now Laura's job to infiltrate The Red Hand by using her feminine charm to get close to Bilenko by any means necessary. Laura's new boss, Billy Smythe has teamed her up with the charismatic Swiss magnate of industry, Peter Du Froid. Their mission will take them from the glitz and glamour of Monaco to the sleepy, beach towns of Southern California, where they'll team up with Laura's old friends and Peter's elderly mother Anna. Back at Britewood House, Laura's newly adopted daughter, Aurora, is finding it difficult to settle in but finds comfort in a unique and devilishly violent furry friend. As events unfold, Laura and her team must tread carefully. There's deception, and the shadow of death ever present, nothing is ever what it seems, and allure of Shiny Things presents the greatest danger of all.
