OverviewIn recent years the European Union has been beset by a series of profound crises. Starting with the financial crisis, to the challenge of increased immigration, to the growth of Euroscepticism; the EU is now facing serious questions of its own legitimacy. This collection looks at this basic question. It examines questions of democracy theory, examines why these crises have emerged, and explores the judicial response to them. Having explored the causes and symptoms, it goes on to suggest possible treatments in the form of reform proposals. Closing with a dialogical epilogue by Joseph Weiler, it opens up the debate which will no doubt engage European lawyers for some time to come.
