Jr - Paris

Overview

JR's monumental photographic collages transform Paris's iconic monuments into participatory art experiences, engaging communities while offering spectacular new perspectives on the city's heritage. Text in English and French. Maison CF is renewing its collaboration with JR with the publication of the first volume in a collection dedicated to the artist's work in cities around the world. Designed by the Agnès Dahan studio, these collector's books will be published at a rate of one to three per year. Published to coincide with JR's last action in Paris on the façade of the Opéra Garnier, this book highlights the artist's monumental and participative works in Paris since 2009. A very large-format book that gives pride of place to the images, and gives Daniel Pennac the opportunity to speak, with an original account. Text in English and French.

Author Information

French artist JR transforms Paris into an open-air gallery with his monumental photographic collages. Since 2009, he has reimagined the city's iconic monuments--making the Louvre Pyramid disappear, wrapping the Panthéon and Opéra Garnier, and transforming the Eiffel Tower. His participatory interventions invite people to become both authors and spectators of their city's transformation. These ephemeral architectural collages change how we see and interact with our urban heritage. This collection captures over a decade of JR's most spectacular Parisian projects, each asking: Can art transform our relationship with the city we inhabit?
