OverviewWhat does energy really mean in your daily life? From the cost of electricity to the reliability of power during extreme weather, from climate concerns to the mix of energy sources that power our lives - including nuclear, renewables, and fossil fuels - the choices we make about energy shape our daily lives in ways most of us rarely stop to consider until something goes wrong. In Is Nuclear Right for My Family?, Dr. Peter Ozemoyah draws on more than three decades of experience in the energy sector to translate complex topics into clear, practical insights for everyday readers. Rather than focusing on abstract debates, he explores what different energy options actually mean for households - in terms of cost, reliability, safety, environmental responsibility, and long-term impact. Through accessible explanations, real-world context, and thoughtful discussion, the book explores: - How different energy sources work - including nuclear, renewables, and fossil fuels - The trade-offs between affordability, reliability, and sustainability - How climate change is reshaping energy decisions - Why ethics, Indigenous rights, and public trust are part of the energy conversation - How families and communities can participate in informed energy choices Balanced, engaging, and grounded in lived experience, this book does not tell readers what to think. Instead, it equips them with the understanding needed to ask better questions, weigh real trade-offs, and make informed decisions for their homes, families, and communities. Whether you are trying to make sense of rising energy costs, climate change, or the future of nuclear energy, Is Nuclear Right for My Family? offers a clear and accessible guide to one of the defining issues of our time. ""Overall, it presents the reader with information and initiates thought rather than overloading with technical details."" ""It is very well-written and well-oriented to the family reader."" ""The book can be a good resource for members and beyond."" Author InformationDr. Peter Ozemoyah's relationship with energy began long before his career in engineering. Growing up in Nigeria, he experienced firsthand what it meant for families to plan their days around the rhythm of electricity - moments of bright possibility and sudden darkness. Those early experiences, etched into childhood evenings lit by candles and conversation, sparked a lifelong desire to understand how energy shapes the safety, dignity, and hope of everyday people. That path carried him across continents - from studying chemical engineering in Nigeria and the United States to teaching, leading, and delivering nuclear and energy projects in Canada. Over more than 35 years, he became known not only as a senior executive and engineer, but as someone who could translate technical worlds into human ones. At Tyne Engineering, where he eventually became Vice President, he worked on technologies designed to protect communities and strengthen resilience. Later, he was invited to lead Professional Development and Outreach at the University Network of Excellence in Nuclear Engineering (UNENE), helping guide the next generation of nuclear professionals. But titles never fully captured his motivation. For Dr. Ozemoyah, energy has always been a family story - about warmth in winter, safety during storms, fairness of access, and the quiet comfort of knowing loved ones are protected. His service on boards across Canada and internationally, along with recognition as one of Canada's most influential Black leaders, reflects a career devoted not only to innovation, but to inclusion, education, and community care. This book grows out of that lifelong journey: from a boy watching the lights flicker, to a father answering his children's questions during a winter blackout, to a global energy professional determined to help families everywhere understand the forces shaping their daily lives. He believes every household deserves clarity, confidence, and a seat at the table where energy decisions are made.Dr. Ozemoyah lives in the Greater Toronto Area, where energy conversations often begin - just as they do in this book - around his own kitchen table.
