Janet Broughton is Professor Emerita of Philosophy at the University of California, Berkeley, where she also served as a dean and a vice provost. A scholar of 17th- and 18th-century philosophy, she has a special interest in scepticism. She is the author of Descartes's Method of Doubt, and, with John Carriero, co-editor of The Blackwell Companion to Descartes.
