V. Chalapati Rao, Associate Professor of Environmental Virology at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, died on July 6, 1986. Joseph L. Melnick is Distinguished Service Professor of Virology and Epidemiology and Dean of Graduate Sciences at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston. Dr. Melnick is recognized internationally as a leader in virology. He was elected to be the first Chairman of the Virology Section of the International Association of Microbiological Societies. Since 1957 he has been a member of the World Health Organization Expert Advisory Panel on Viral Diseases.
