Anna and Mark are a young Wollongong couple whose lives change the night they watch a documentary showing orphaned babies tied to cribs, never held. Moved to act, they enter Australia’s adoption system—only to discover a maze of delays, contradictions, and the baffling claim that “there aren’t enough orphans.” With two children of their own, Jackson and Jemima, they decide there must be another way. Their search for purpose—and for children who truly need a home—takes them to Tanzania. Settling in the town of Moshi, beneath Mount Kilimanjaro, they work at a boarding school and begin learning the rhythms, humour and hardship of Tanzanian life. Author Information

Anna Dombkins is an Australian writer from Wollongong. She and her husband, Mark have six children and are passionate advocates for adoption, having adopted three of their children from Tanzania. Anna studied Psychology at Wollongong University and Charles Sturt University, and works as a School Counsellor. She is a Founding Director of Forever Projects, a charity started by Mark and Anna after living in Tanzania, which supports women in poverty to keep their babies and empowers them to live independently.
