Heaven Knows

Overview

Al Tacconelli's latest series of poems looks at the present and peers backward into the past, often with brazen physicality. There are moments of love, of longing and loss, of reckoning with the past. But always, taking in and reproducing experiences in vibrant verbal sketches. -Linda Pizzi

Reviews

This morning woke me to writing a response to Heaven Knows, to the wonder of being part of a Universe open to expressing its need to be seen, felt, heralded. Al Tacconelli's poems wrap the gift of our miraculous, abundant, burdened lives. Al's great skill is to unveil the sacred in the profane, the joy in sorrow, the absolute rightness of unrequited love, of opening a new tube of paint, picking the right ingredients at the market for recipes passed from the ancient world 10 worlds away. Tacconelli's poems prove that desire, no matter society's sanction, is tethered to the heart of everything and to each other. These poems are born of a life lived in awe, respect, and an abiding joy. Reading Tacconelli's poems helps me see my own life more clearly. I wish the same for you. -Dave Eldridge Albert Tacconelli offers his readers unflinchingly honest, yet very tender, portraits of people, such as Mike, Robert, Cousin Mary Margaret, Constantine, Ben, Harry, Mrs. D'Amato, and many others, whose lives touched the poet in profound ways. Albert Tacconelli's poems are beautiful in their humanity and profound in their compassion. -Maria Famá
