Overview

Heat Recovery with Commercial, Institutional, and Industrial Heat Pumps presents the basic concepts and thermodynamic behavior of mechanical vapor compression and recompression. It covers both ammonia water absorption and compression/resorption heat pumps. Including theoretical and practical approaches, the book features numerous solved exercises based on real thermodynamic and climatic parameters and case studies with takeaways from on-site experiences to help the reader better identify the advantages and limitations of each heat pumping technology. The book discusses future implementations of heat recovery heat pump technologies that are among the most energy-efficient and environmentally friendly techniques. This book will interest graduate students studying HVAC, thermal systems, and heat pumps. It will also benefit professionals working with heat pumps, industrial process engineers, manufacturers, and research and design personnel.

Reviews

“This book is ahead of its time and will be very useful for both engineers and students. According to the International Energy Agency, the future of the space heating (in buildings and industries) will be with using heat pumps and phasing-out fossil fuels.” - Risto Ciconkov, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University

Author Information

Dr. Vasile Minea worked as a professor at the Bucharest Technical Construction University for over 15 years, teaching courses such as HVAC systems for civil, agricultural, and industrial buildings, as well as thermodynamics, heat transfer, and refrigeration. During this period, his R&D works focused on new technologies for heat exchangers, residential and industrial heat pumps, development and experimentation of advanced compression-absorption/resorption heat pumps concepts, as well as on the usage of solar energy for comfort cooling processes and industrial cold water and ice production. Since 1987, Dr. Minea has been working as a scientist researcher at the Hydro-Quebec Research Institute, Laboratory of Energy Technologies in Quebec, Canada. His research activity mainly focused on industrial refrigeration, heat recovery technologies in large-scale commercial/institutional heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems, and various industrial processes (as drying), low-temperature geothermal heat pumps, and low-enthalpy power generation cycles.
