Guess What? I Love You

Overview

At its heart, this memoir is a love story-between musician Mike Maimone and his late husband, renowned publicist Howard Bragman. Through vivid scenes of travel, music, family, and quiet intimacy, Maimone paints a portrait of a partnership that brought joy, grounding, and transformation. Their marriage was an against-all-odds collision of worlds: faiths, traditions, and generations converging in a relationship full of humor, tenderness, and mutual inspiration. The two were engaged when Howard was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer. They married in the hospital, and the very next evening, Maimone held his new husband as he passed away. After this devastating loss, he turned to his art as a way through grief. Creativity took on new purpose-to carry Howard's legacy forward-though he had yet to understand the true magnitude of Bragman's impact on the world. In their final moments together, Bragman promised Maimone ""I'm not going anywhere."" From performing with Stevie Wonder at Howard's memorial to inexplicable synchronicities, Maimone discovered that his late husband was still all around him. A self-described ""recovering Catholic,"" he recounts the subtle and not-so-subtle cues that restored his faith in a higher power. Maimone recorded his grief journey in real time through this book and an accompanying album. In sharing this creative process, readers witness yet another transformation-the slow movement from heartbreak toward healing. The result is both a portrait of love and a testament to resilience: a deeply personal yet universal story of mourning and renewal. Ultimately, it celebrates the enduring power of love to inspire creativity, courage, connection, and spiritual awakening.

Reviews

""Mike Maimone's beautifully written, deeply moving memoir will stir the soul of anyone who reads it. He brings vividly to life his improbable love story with Hollywood PR genius Howard Bragman. As a tribute, Maimone explains Howard's impact. But the heart of this book is the private relationship of two men, showing us all that love can last a lifetime - even through death."" - Thomas Maier, New York Time bestselling author of Masters of Sex """"One of those understated revelations that says something big and elusive about what it means to be alive. About the beauty of loving someone. And the impossibility of losing them. It's writing that sticks with you. The way Mike captures their love-the intimacy, the playfulness, their resilience in the face of heartbreak, and their insistence on loving each other despite it-is deeply moving. It is a powerful testament to their relationship, to who Howard was as a person, and to Mike's gifts as a writer who captures it all."" - Celeste Fine, Park, Fine & Brower Literary Agents
