Overview

It could only be called From Venice to Venice, the poetic collection born from the idea developed in Venice (Italy) with my friend, the poet Matt Sedillo, during the XVII edition of the International Poetry Festival, 'Palabra en el Mundo, ' held in Venice in May 2023. This anthological collection has as its generative project that of exchange, knowledge, and mutual gift through the poetic word because we are convinced of poetry's proactive force. It wants to transcend divisions, languages, geographical areas, generational experiences, and poetics. Building a bridge, therefore, despite the geographical distance. A dialogue, a listening to everything around us. From this intersection of sounds, alphabets, and visions of worlds and humanity, the poetic word takes its vital energy. In a world currently on the brink of a nervous crisis that risks falling into a state of no return, for all humanity, this anthological journey is a shining stone, a beacon of hope where poetry vibrates in unison with what it sees, touches, and listens to since it is not indifferent to the evils and disasters of these derailed times. The verses of the poets chosen here, with their own poetic individuality, also set in motion the importance of collective action, recalling, in an original way, the preciousness of contamination, of mutual knowledge. In fact, from almost all the poems, the richness of the different existential conditions that cross our lives, emerges. Realities are sometimes painful, bitter, and crude, to which the distorted logic of single thought and the prevailing globalized economy want us to get accustomed to, but which their poetic word bathes and redeems. Finally, this 'anthological' poetic bridge does not forget the beauty surrounding us and quietly reminds us that we are not alone in walking this earth.

"Mark Lipman, founder of the press Vagabond, the Culver City Book Festival, the Elba Poetry Festival; winner of the 2015 Joe Hill Labor Poetry Award; the 2016 International Latino Book Award and the 2023 L'Alloro di Dante (Dante's Laurel - Italy), a writer, poet, multi-media artist, activist, and author of fourteen books, began his career as the writer-in-residence at the world famous Shakespeare and Company in Paris, France (2002-2003). Since then, he has worked closely with such legendary poets as Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Jack Hirschman on many projects and for the last twenty years has been establishing a strong international following as a leading voice of his generation. He's the host and foreign correspondent for the radio program, Poetry from Around the World for Poets Caf� on KPFK 90.7 FM Los Angeles. As Mark continues to travel the world, he uses poetry to connect communities to the greater social justice issues, while building consciousness through the spoken word. Anna Lombardo lives in Venice. Poet, translator, and cultural activist. Degree from the C� Foscari University of Venice with a PhD on the marginalization of female poetry at Trinity College in Dublin. Her poems have been translated into multiple languages and have been published in national and international journals and anthologies. Since 2009, she has been the artistic director of the FIP (International Poetry Festival) Palabra en el Mundo for Venice, which welcomes various national and international voices annually. She is among the founders of the International Poet's Net POP. David A. Romero is a Mexican-American spoken word artist from Diamond Bar, CA. Romero is the co-founder and editor-in-chief of El Martillo Press. Romero is the author of My Name Is Romero (FlowerSong Press), a book reviewed by Gustavo Arellano (�Ask a Mexican!), Curtis Marez (University Babylon), and founding member of Ozomatli, Ulises Bella. Romero has received honorariums from nearly a hundred colleges and universities in thirty-four different states in the USA and has performed live in Mexico, Italy, and France. Romero's work has been published in literary magazines in the United States, Mexico, England, Scotland, and Canada. Romero has opened for Latin Grammy winning bands Ozomatli and La Santa Cecilia. Romero's work has been published in anthologies alongside poets laureate Joy Harjo, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Luis J. Rodriguez, Jack Hirschman, and Tongo Eisen-Martin.
