Farewell Foundations: Everything I wish I'd known before my mom died

Overview

You don't know what you don't know-until someone you love is dying. Farewell Foundations is a clear, compassionate, and brutally honest roadmap that takes readers through what to do during the death of a loved one. Blending personal nursing insight with lived experience, it offers clear, compassionate advice on everything from physical signs of dying to managing grief, making end-of-life decisions, and handling legal affairs. Written by a long-term and palliative care nurse who nonetheless felt unprepared when faced with the death of her own mother, Farewell Foundations helps people facing loss be less scared, less alone, and more prepared. It tells the unvarnished truth, answering questions no one talks about and giving readers control when life feels out of control. With this book, you can be empowered with real-world wisdom and manage the overwhelming with grace, understanding, and love.

Author Information

TS Gale is a retired nurse who worked in both long-term and palliative care. She is also a daughter who lost her mom and a sister who lost her sister. When her mom got sick, Gale was shocked by how difficult it was to find the information she and her siblings needed. Google was great, but there were so many questions that only experience answered. Gale wanted to be able to help others in the same dilemma, she compiled everything she'd learned into one text. Having found healing through time, Gale finds her joy in gardening, riding horses, and spending time with her kids. She lives in southern B.C., Canada.
