OverviewThis study has significant economic, social, and environmental implications. It is part of the Franco-Moroccan PHC Toubkal project (Ecopama, Volubilis 2012). Its primary objective is to utilize Moroccan Acacia mollissima bark through a green extraction process to obtain reactive products-condensed tannins-which will be used in the gluing of plywood panels. Three extraction methods were studied. Two are conventional: maceration and infusion. These two extraction techniques are simple and inexpensive. The third is microwave-assisted extraction. This is an innovative, rapid technique that uses little solvent. The design of experiments methodology was used in this study to determine the most significant factors for improving the extraction yield of condensed tannins, optimizing extraction conditions, and reducing both the amount of solvent used and the extraction time. The various adhesives exhibit satisfactory physical and thermal characteristics that are acceptable for the wood panel bonding industry.
