Overview

Since the beginning of this millennium, the word ""intericonicity"" has been used to denote a framework theory describing images' reference to other images by transferring theories of intertextuality to the image. The boom in the use of this term has led to its inclusion in expert jargon and specialized lexicons and its establishment in interdisciplinary contexts, albeit without the backing of theoretically sound art-scientific concepts. In this book, Manuela Bünzow presents the first systematic theory of intericonicity, developed resolutely and consistently from image discourses and practices. It starts from ontological and epistemological foundations that require a completely novel awareness of problems and methods.

Manuela Bünzow, Studium der Kunstgeschichte, Pädagogik und Kunstpädagogik, gefördert durch die Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes. Sie arbeitet als wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Lehrstuhl für Kunstgeschichte der Akademie der Bildenden Künste Nürnberg und promovierte an der Staatlichen Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe bei Matthias Bruhn und Lars Blunck. Ihre Forschungsinteressen liegen in den Bereichen Bildwissenschaft, Materialprozesse, Fotografie sowie moderne und zeitgenössische Kunst. Manuela Bünzow, studied art history, pedagogics, and art education, funded by the German Academic Scholarship Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes). She works as a research assistant at the Chair of Art History at Nuremberg Academy of Fine Arts, and completed her doctorate under Matthias Bruhn and Lars Blunck at Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design. Her research interests lie in the fields of image science, material processes, photography, and modern and contemporary art.
