OverviewThe State of Nebraska began construction on its third and final capitol building in 1922. Architect Bertram Goodhue believed that placing artwork throughout the capitol was the best means of telling the story of Nebraska. Working with Nebraska-born philosopher Hartley Burr Alexander, Goodhue crafted a narrative--inside and outside the building--of the state's development and aspirations. Under Goodhue and Alexander's direction, artists, muralists, and sculptors came together make Nebraska's capitol the state's largest public art gallery. Creative Genius: The Art of the Nebraska Capitol explains the meaning behind the artwork, the inspiration of the artists who contributed, and a history of the building itself. With hundreds of photos of mosaics, friezes, murals, and sculptures, this book is a celebration of Nebraska's capitol artwork. Full Product DetailsAuthor: Robert C. In the introduction, they wrote: ‘From the engineering standpoint, the building embodies the cumulative results of American energy, inventive skill and organizing ability; and from all combined points of view, it stands as a remarkable interpretation of innumerable events that have shaped the progress of American art, industry, and democratic government.’”—from the prologue Author InformationSusanne Shore, former First Lady of Nebraska, is an ardent promoter of Nebraska, including its beautiful Capitol.
