Overview

This book was conceived as an essential tool to promote information and disseminate knowledge that permeates the vast autistic universe. Our purpose is to provide readers with a trusted, accessible source of wisdom, empowering them to not only understand, but also more effectively support children on the autism spectrum. We recognize that knowledge is the key that allows us to act with clarity and confidence, especially when faced with the most challenging situations. Lack of knowledge can amplify difficulties, fears and uncertainties, while knowledge enables us to discern truth from misinformation and act in an organized, foresighted and confident way to overcome our obstacles. In the pages of this guide, readers will find not only basic concepts, but also fundamental information that will illuminate many situations faced daily by those immersed in the autistic universe, whether directly or indirectly. From approaches to what autism is and how it is diagnosed, to therapeutic and practical strategies for dealing with specific challenges, we seek to offer a comprehensive and practical overview to help readers on their journey. Our intention is that this book will become an invaluable source of knowledge and guidance for parents, caregivers, educators, healthcare professionals, and all individuals committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for children with autism. We firmly believe that, with adequate access to information and a solid understanding of the needs and potential of people on the autism spectrum, we can build a more empathetic, understanding and inclusive world for everyone.

Author Information

I would like to share a little about myself and my work as a child therapist, with an emphasis on childhood autism. Over the almost four decades dedicated to this area, I have had the privilege of working with both adults and children on the autism spectrum. This journey has been marked by testimonies of the damage caused by the lack of information and knowledge about how the autistic world works. It is painful to observe how lack of knowledge generates unfounded fears, promotes the creation of false myths and segregates autistic people from social life. This lack of understanding significantly increases the burden of difficulties that naturally accompany those who live within this special world. As a professional in this area, I feel compelled to promote the sharing of information in order to more humanize each person in relation to integration with the autistic universe. My goal in writing this book is to provide a trusted source of knowledge and guidance for those who want to better understand childhood autism and more effectively support children on the autism spectrum. Throughout the pages of this guide, you will find not only practical and up-to-date information, but also a compassionate and inclusive approach designed to help build a more welcoming and empathetic environment for all children, regardless of whether they are on the autism spectrum or not. I hope this book serves as a valuable tool to promote a deeper understanding and broader acceptance of childhood autism, empowering readers to challenge stigmas, overcome prejudices, and cultivate a more inclusive and supportive society. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of children on the autism spectrum and create a world where everyone can thrive and be truly valued for who they are.
