Busy Women: Building Commerce and Culture in Middle India

Overview

Busy Women is an important work to understand contemporary India and what its fabled post-liberalization growth has achieved beyond its bustling metros. Based on extensive travel across thirty cities of Middle India and interviews of over 300 women and also a few men, the book successfully brings together the economic growth story with the poignant humour that runs through narratives of women fielding the two-buck question thrown at them all the time―‘kya zaroorat hai?. With the curiosity of a woman whose own journey took her from a village to C-suite roles in some of India’s most iconic financial services institutions, Shinjini Kumar writes with flair, wit and deep empathy, bringing to life women who are redefining what ambition and progress feel like. Evocative, entertaining and insightful, this is a must-read for anyone interested in contemporary India.

Reviews

The book Busy Women by Shinjini Kumar is truly inspirational. It is heart warming to read so many motivational stories about small town girls and women who have broken the traditional mould and come out of the closets to pursue their dreams and exploit their entrepreneurial skills . Shinjini's real life portrayal of these women resonates with her own self. She draws from so many of her own experiences and presents them in the form of this brilliantly written book . In her introduction she mentions her mother's concern of advising her to write a book that is not ""boring "" . Far from that ., she has made it into such interesting reading that the reader wants to go on without a stop
