Overview

Like many small children, the blue tit chick is a little scared when left alone. It is experiencing sights, sounds and other living creatures for the first time, which can be overwhelming. For animal lovers, the natural instinct is to take care of a chick that's fallen from its nest or been left alone, but should we really intervene? This book has been not just a story before bed for my girls, but an instrument of wonder. The story, despite being about an ordinary walk, it's so rich in details and sensations that my girls find themselves relating sometimes to the person and sometimes to the little bird! On top of that, each time we read it, they are mesmerised by the illustrations, we love the fact that they are realistic and the attention to detail. I appreciate the interesting facts included at the end, when you close the book you feel like you have actually learned something while relaxing with a sweet story. Dalia R. / About this book's makers: The author - Bernardine Mulryan Bernardine is a wife, mother and grandmother and lives on a stud farm. The farm is partially surrounded by the river Liffey, some of it is in forestry and there is also a lake. She is passionate about wildlife and ensures the farm is as wildlife friendly as possible. She enjoys walking on the farm and the sounds of the insect's, the singing of the birds and the noises of wild animals roaming through the forest area never ceases to amaze her. Bernardine loves to share all her experiences on the farm with her grandchildren through stories. The illustrator - Aga Grandowicz Aga is an award-winning art director, graphic designer and wildlife artist. Her first book published in Ireland - 'Dr Hibernica Finch's Compelling Compendium Of Irish Animals' - (Little Island, 2018) won her the Honour Award for Illustration at CBI Book of The Year Awards 2019, and was shortlisted for the Irish Books Awards 2018 in the Best Irish-Published category, and for the Literacy Ireland Children's Book Award 2019. Aga's recent book - 'Remarkable Creatures: a guide to some of Ireland's disappearing animals' (Natural World Publishing, 2021), has been receiving a great feedback and was mentioned in Irish Independent, in the article 'The great escape - the best books for young bookworms to get lost in'. Since the first book's publication Aga has been involved in various wildlife-related projects, and running drawing workshops for children at book and family festivals, or as part of initiatives organised by libraries around the country.
