When new fairy, Sorrel, arrives in Birch's village looking for a salve to help some injured squirrels, Avery and Birch accompany him back as he tells them all sorts of fascinating things about the forest, squirrels, and other creatures. But Birch feels jealous of the attention Avery gives to Sorrel, and the friends will need to mend hurt feelings as well as injured squirrels. In her soft, enchanting artwork, Kingsbury cultivates a magical sense of place, with naturalistic plants and animals alongside the charming fairies in their midst. Realistic ecology facts are threaded throughout the fantastical story, and the overall message of caring for the environment and appreciating its natural balance is pitch-perfect for little kids charmed by the natural world. Author Information
Rowan Kingsbury is an illustrator and storyteller dedicated to crafting things full of wonder, warmth, and whimsy. She was raised in the evergreen state of Washington and graduated from the Pacific Northwest College of Art with a BFA in Illustration. Rowan now resides in Portland, Oregon, choosing to stay close to the rainy forests she spent her childhood exploring. Besides doodling fairies and running her online shop, she also enjoys cooking up treats, ambling around, and trying to find the nearest cat to bother.
