This book explores the ever-evolving landscape of automated audiovisual translation (AVT), charting the challenges and opportunities around dubbing and subtitling in the age of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI). The volume first briefly lays out foundational characteristics of human dubbing and subtitling before moving into a discussion of the hallmarks of artificial intelligence (AI)-driven dubbing and subtitling. Giampieri and Leonardi discuss the most recent advancements in automated AVT to set the stage for examining these dynamics at work in case studies from translator training to legal and medical domains.
