OverviewThis Special Issue provides insights into landscape archaeology independently of the location of the sites, their characteristics, or their chronology. In recent decades, issues surrounding landscape archaeology have been extensively studied by archaeologists worldwide. Researchers have begun interpreting the human impact on the landscape in territories that were settled or trekked across for various reasons from prehistory onwards, with consideration of their landscape exploitation strategies. Ongoing research has shown the importance of landscape archaeology in the study of settlement patterns, human impact, and the exploitation of natural resources. Among these resources are knappable raw materials like chert and obsidian, which were exploited for the manufacturing of everyday artefacts, precious stones, personal ornaments, and jewellery, and metal ores for making different types of objects, weapons, and other tools of warfare. The study of landscapes involves any branch of archaeological research, along with a variety of laboratory analysis strategies, that contribute to the interpretation of how humans have changed the landscape, the reasons underlying the reaction from the natural environment, and the chronology of the events that took place before and after human intervention.
