Overview

Luna, a young vision impaired girl with ADHD, gets her first guide dog and has to learn to cope and adapt to a changed world. Whisper - a puppy throughout the story - is the main character who is also the narrator. The story covers Whisper's first week learning about Luna's house, her school and environment. Through Whisper's eyes the world of a person living with special needs takes on deeper meaning, as he guides with compassion and patience. A Wonk-a-Doodle Week is a chapter book for children who read by themselves for the first time - essentially a happy story about a day-dreamer child who climbs higher, shouts louder, talks non-stop, jumps on beds, and moves outside the boundaries of what is considered 'normal' by others. It demonstrates the power of love and friendship in all situations.

Being a child of Africa, all Hester's works contain an African element to enhance the learning process.
