Overview

Most children understand more than their elders about climate change and its detrimental impacts. They empathize with the struggles of wildlife affected by humanity's irresponsible behaviours. What might the animals and birds discuss as pollution, litter, and habitat destruction increasingly threaten their happy, safe existence? This imaginative play explores those conversations. It follows a fearful fox, a funky fish named Matilda, a seagull called Syd, Roger Rabbit, Harry the hedgehog, Lucy the lark and many worried ocean creatures. As Matilda's underwater home changes for the worse, the surface-dwellers also face a changing world. These talking creatures voice pressing worries - what thoughtless things will humans do next? Yet the playful form makes their message uplifting. Perfect for primary schools, scouts, church groups, young actors or aware kids who want to create their own production and gently teach grownups about protecting the planet. Whimsical yet wise, this play blends fun, drama, and vital lessons about conscience. It calls on our empathy to consider how actions harm the voiceless. Will the audiences who watch such creative young stewards be inspired themselves to safeguard the Earth? Perhaps through opening hearts and minds, young performers sow seeds of hope.

Author Information

Jeanie started her career as a nursery nurse, then became a physical education teacher, England team manager for women's basketball, faculty head of Health and Childcare, a psychologist, and psychotherapist. She is an author, broadcaster, and panto producer. In all her many jobs and extensive training, her NNEB educational experience still remains the most influential to her approach to teaching and learning, and she has always maintained her childlikeness towards children. Jeanie has, since being four years old as a wagging bottom duck, all her life, been active in treading the boards in her exciting hobby of amateur dramatics. She has one son, Carl, and lives in Brighton with her husband, Geoff, and her rescued golden retriever, Zoe.
